I am Roshani Pandey, the creator of this site, that aims to provide you actionable information on investing and personal finance in a way that is easy to understand.
I started working in the financial industry 16 years ago and as an investment advisor, I have advised individuals and families like yourselves and also institutions worth billions of dollars, like university endowments, foundations and retirement plans. I have worked with global firms like Goldman Sachs and BlackRock and also with niche and boutique players.
Many of my clients were achievers and experts in their fields but when it came to investing and personal finance, they did not know much and this sometimes led to fear and inaction. Believe it or not, even multi-millionaires are scared of losing money and making costly financial mistakes.
The markets seem unpredictable and risky. Managing personal finance seems complicated and daunting. But by not taking action, you’re taking an even bigger risk. That risk is that you won’t have enough money when you need it. Your savings in cash might not even keep up with inflation.
So, what should you do?
First, understand. Second, take action.
When you understand even the basics well, it stops being daunting. You become empowered to ask the right questions, to make choices and to become your best advocate.
Let me share my investment journey
When I started investing many years ago, I did not have a Finance degree or any understanding of financial markets. I tried to research on my own but was overwhelmed by the amount of information I found. But looking back, none of the information was actually useful to me. I found bits and pieces of information on specific topics like how to spot the next big tech stock. But since I did not have a foundation on investing, I did not understand anything and did not find the information actionable.
Many years later today, I think the problem has gotten even worse. There are so many new products and players and so much noise that a person looking to learn on their own just gives up or invests in something without understanding. Both of those scenarios are bad.
Having been through this myself, I created this website to share with you my lessons on personal finance and investing in a way that is easy for anyone from outside the financial industry to understand. Whether you are new to investing or have some experience in it, my goal is that after spending time on this site, you are empowered to take control of your financial future. This could be by starting to invest or making improvements to your current investments or doing better financial planning.
I was fortunate to have been born in Nepal, where I also grew up and left to come to the US for college many years ago. I am an avid traveler and reader of both fiction and non-fiction. To me, travel does not only mean traveling to new places but could also mean a new experience and an opening of mindset or worldview. Literature is my first love.
